Latest Updates on CBSE, ICSE Class 12, Class 10 exam.

The upcoming CBSE and ICSE Class XII and Class X exams have been cancelled by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and ICSE Board respectively.

The Union government and the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) informed the Supreme Court on Thursday, 25th June, the remaining exams for classes 10 and 12, scheduled between July 1 and 15, have been cancelled due to concern for the safety of students amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The CBSE also told Supreme Court that the Class XII students can opt for exams to be conducted later.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed Supreme Court today that the CBSE has decided to cancel 10th and 12th exams scheduled for July 1 to 15. He said that as soon as conditions will be conducive, we could conduct the CBSE class 12 examinations for students who opt for it. The Solicitor general also informed the apex court that a scheme has been formulated for assessment of class XII students on the basis of last exams.

The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) also agreed “in-principle” with the government decision to cancel the pending exams. However, ICSE doesn’t agree to give option to students to write exam later, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informs Supreme Court.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre and the CBSE, said Class 12 students could either opt for an assessment scheme to be notified by the CBSE shortly or appear for the remaining exams whenever they are held as soon as atmosphere becomes more ‘conducive’. Mr. Mehta said the assessment for the remaining exams for Class 12 would be done taking into account the marks scored in the “past three exams”. The assessment results would be declared by July 15, he said.

During the hearing on the petition filed by parents on the Supreme Court, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had said that the government and the board were aware of the anxiety of students. And the authorities concerned would take a decision on the issue very soon.

In an official notification on May 18, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had announced the date sheet for remaining exams of Class XII. The apex court bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar had also said that the expert body was in the process of taking a final decision on CBSE exams “very shortly and hopefully by tomorrow (June 24). The top court then deferred the hearing in the matter to June 25 at 2 pm. The Supreme Court on Tuesday also heard a separate petition regarding the Indian School Certificate Examinations (ICSE) amid the pandemic and posted the matter for hearing on June 25.
